Catena Imports: Wine Importers of New York

09/01/2019

Catena imports wine to the States from Italian producers; detouring large importers & saving their marketing costs.

In 2016 after a day full of wine tastings and delectable food, two brothers-in-law and their adventurous daughters saw the opportunity to combine what they already knew and make something even greater. High in the hills of Valdobbiadene, the idea of Catena Imports was born to use their resources as already established wine distributors in Italy and share what they had come to love as families across an ocean and with the public.

By bypassing large importers, producers are able to save money on marketing and large investments. Many of these small producers aren’t exporting simply because they never have and are successfully doing what they have always done; creating and selling unique and locally thriving wines. They already have relationships developed with these producers and by bringing their ideas to them they can ensure that they will be getting a one of a kind and extraordinary product. It is that simple.

They are not a mere economic venture, but a brand that hopes to deliver an experience through products that they carefully hand select to bring to you.

They are a proud family-run business that has been successful in the distribution industry in Italy for over three generations. Their roots in this industry have helped them develop close personal ties with vineyards and producers all over the Veneto region. Their mission is to continue to spread knowledge and awareness of this important wine producing region as many smaller wineries with rich history and tradition are yet to be uncovered. They believe in the importance of sharing these untold stories as Veneto is the highest DOC producing wine region in Italy.

The Veneto region of Italy is dynamic, diverse and ancient. From small picturesque villages in the rolling foothills of the Pre Alps to the mighty Dolomites; from historic arts, crafts and trade centres that originated in Roman times and before, the people and places of Veneto are unique. They are proud and true to their roots in tradition, drive, and hard work. Many smaller vineyards and potential wine gems remain hidden as larger wine importers focus on vineyards that can provide mass production. They want to introduce you to these exceptional vineyards and let you experience their unique products.

They are basing their selections on years of experience with producers that they have ongoing relationships with. The community remains the focus of all that they do. They measure their success by the personal relationships they build with winemakers and their customers.

Colle del Santo & Colle dell’ Eremo Prosecco are born from a selection of the most distinguished grapes in the hills of Valdobbiadene in the Veneto region of Italy. Franciscan monks have tilled and cultivated the estate of Saint Peter of Barbozza for centuries to deliver a Prosecco that exemplifies the refined and indulgent taste of a celebrated region, whose story can be told sip by sip. The Franciscan brothers contribute a portion of all proceeds to Caritas Antoniana and their famous charitable work around the world.

Valdobbiadene lies at an elevation of about 500 meters above sea level. This esteemed region has a microclimate known to produce the best Prosecco in the world. The vines are cultivated on the sunniest parts of these steep hills that allow for optimal drainage as well as protect the vineyards from cold winter winds. The steepness of these hills make machine use impossible, and the manual labour to harvest these vines is known in Italian as “heroic viticulture.” Only timeless hours of exhausting and careful hand picking allow for such bright and beautiful wines. Soils of mixed clay, sand and calcium provide the maximum expression of creamy fruit and sweet floral. From this harmony between sacred land, passion for purity, and longing to preserve a culture, emerges an outstanding winemaking process that can only be truly understood by tasting it yourself.
