The Liquor Distributor's Guide to New York City

20/06/2018

Connecting key accounts with unique spirits is one of the most important aspects of a successful liquor distributor.

USA Trade Tasting will be hosting liquor distributors from around the USA.

Whether it's the wide selection of locally produced craft spirits, massive stain chores dominating the landscapes of outer-boroughs, or high-profile lounges catering to the business class of down-town Manhattan, New York City is home to every type of  liquor retailer, bar, restaurant and supplier that can possibly be imagined. USA Trade Tasting will be hosting liquor distributors from around the USA and we know how busy their schedules are.  One of the biggest markets in the world, New York offers liquor distributors an endless selection of business partners and we want to give them the best possible chance at forging successful partnerships.  Beyond the 500+ brands to source from and thousands of representatives to connect with at USA Trade Tasting, we also want to them to be able to network during the time outside the event.

We've compiled some the best distilleries, bottle shops cocktail bars in New York to give you an inside track to doing business.

New York Distilling Company

NYDC_LogoThe New York Distilling Company is based in Brooklyn and offers a fine selection of spirits. Their line-up includes some superb offerings, including some catchy names like: Dorothy Parker American Gin; Perry's Tot Navy Strength Gin; Mister Katz's Rock and Rye; Chief Gowanus New Neatherland Gin; and Ragtime Rye American Straight Whisky. For Liquor Distributor's looking to pick-up a unique New York label, the New York Distilling Company is a city spalce and although they are a micro-distillery the potential for growth is there.  It is definitely worth a visit to their 'Shanty,' a cozy bar that offers a great look into their operation as well as a full selection of beer, spirits and wine. Contact Info: 79 Richardson Street, Brooklyn, NY 11211 • (718) 412-0874

The Noble Experiment

noble_experiment Currently with distribution partners in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, Florida and California, The Noble Experiment is a small-batch distillery whose primary label, Owney's Original Rum, is something of a phenomenon. The name of the distillery hales back to the time of prohibition when locals playfully nick-named the all-encompassing ban on alcoholic beverages 'the noble experiment.'  The distillery was founded by Bridget Firtle whose hope was to, 'bring distilling back to New York.'  After three years and a very successful showing with many retailers across the city (and even the country), we can confidently say that her project is worthy of being one of New York's best craft distilleries.

Port Morris Distillery

port_morris2 Located in the South Bronx, Port Morris Distillery takes much pride in their Pitorro (Puertorriqueño for Moonshine) and the fact that they were one of the first establishments in the area to revitalize the craft movement of Manhattan.  With their flagship Pitorro label and cask aged Anejo, their offering is a refreshing take on modern, highly-engineered moonshines. The tasting room is an interesting space located in equally interesting area. Right where the First Ave Bridge and the Triboro bridge meet and with Disney-meets-Puerto-Rico colonial style house fronts lining walls, the industrial bar in the corner provides an appropriate contrast between New York City and the island life.  The bar is only opened Wednesday through Saturday, but their labels are available across most of New York.

Amor y Amargo

amoryamargoOne of Manhattan's most dedicated cocktail bars, Amor y Amargo offers classes, bitters for sale and an impressive selection of well crafted-drinks. Most visitors to this bar are true enthusiasts and, as far as on-premise accounts, this tasting room is a great place to supply. Give yourself a few minutes to take the whole bar in, as Amor y Amargo is a specialized account looking for very specific products to match their mixologist’s needs.  The time spent is well worth the study as you will find a welcoming and dedicated home for you spirits, if you can penetrate their drinks menu.

Death & Co

DeathCoAnother homage to the prohibition era, Death & Co is a chic bar with exceptional food and décor whose name was chosen for its underground speak-easy image.  ‘It was thought by some that to drink alcohol was to live a life shadowed by death.  It was thought by some that this was Death and Company,” is written as the bar’s tagline and with the antiquated beliefs that were held by the populace of generation past, it’s easy to get caught up in the romanticism of their name. Low lit ambiance is the theme of the place and there is a certain sensation of exclusiveness that you can only get when you pass through the doors of this small, but warm bar on the Lower East Side.

Pegu Club

This sophisticated Soho lounge attempts to d all the little things well, and that also includes taking care of their customers.  From the bottle rail to the door mat, everything is pleasant inside the Pegu Club. The name was taken from the famous cocktail which originates from the British Officer's Club of the same name near the Gulf of Martaban, in Burma, where Kipling set a scene in his novel 'Sea to Sea.'  The bar in New York might not look like the original club house in Burma, but instead it pays homage to the classic art of cocktails. Needless to say, this account is as good as any for products that are looking for a good cocktail bar as their next partner in New York.

Astor Wines and Spirits

astorPerhaps the most famous bottle shop in Manhattan, Astor Wine and Spirits is Greenwich staple which recently increased their floor space by 50%.  With a massive selection and a premium location, Astor is a New York bottle shop that must be on your radar. Climate control, modern design, selection and well informed staff is what Astor wines has to offer. Oh yah, they offer weekly tastings to a large consumer base too.

Park Avenue Liquor Shop

park_aveFor more than 50 years, Park Avenue Liquor Shop has been selling New York's favourite libations. Their recent move to Madison Avenue from 40th St hasn't changed the fact that they have kept the Avenue name, which originally comes from their original location on Park Avenue. Even with its confusing name, this place's expert selection of spirits is anything but muddled.  Be sure to make this a must-visit bottle shop during your visit to New York.
