Wine Thieves
Wine Thieves make fine wines in "Kvevri" - with a traditional Georgian method counting over 8000 years.
Wine
The name “Wine Thieves” derives from the novel written by Georgian classic writer Shio Aragvispireli. According to the story, four mischievous villagers sneak into a stingy neighbor's wine cellar, crack open his Kvevri (egg-shaped clay vessel buried underground) and start drinking the wine stored inside. As they get drunk and rambunctious with Georgian toasts and songs, the noise accidentally wakes Elibo - the owner of the cellar who ends up joining their feast. The idea of creating the Wine Thieves (ღვინის ქურდები [Ghvinis Kurdebi]) emerged in 2016, when several wine-enthusiast friends found out that the larger portion of Georgian fine wines remained unknown on the western markets. The philosophy of the company is to promote the advantage of Kvevri Wine. Our company belongs to the so called "New generation" of Georgian wineries, which has absolutely distanced from the winemaking model dictated by the Soviet Union's planned economy that still remains challenging for Georgian wine industry. Thus, the company transformed into the award-winning medium size winery. Last year, two of our wines were awarded a Silver and Bronze medals at IWCS 2023. Recently we got an exciting news from the Decanter Awards, that our Saperavi 2021 was awarded a Gold Medal (95 Pts.), while our Kisi got Bronze Medal (89 Pts.). Our wine is successfully sold in Norway, France and Georgia. In 2022, our Rkatsiteli 2019 (Kvevri) became the best-selling amber wine in Norway.
