The Quinta da Pacheca is one of the most known properties of the Douro, and was the first to bottle wine with their brand. It’s a document dated April 1738 for the first time refers to the Quinta called “The Pacheca” for being its owner D. Mariana Pacheco Pereira. At that time the Quinta was a set of vineyards acquired through the ages to Convents Salzedas and S. John Tarouca. THE HISTORY The relationship with the Serpa Pimentel and the Douro Valley dates back to century XVIII, when the family bought the Quinta Vale of Abraão, a privileged space for recreation for the aristocracy of the time, but without the wine context of Pacheca. It was only in 1903 that D. José Freire de Serpa Pimentel, who had great passion for wine, also decided to buy the Quinta da Pacheca, to engage with great commitment to its production. In the year following the purchase, gave up an early first major restoration of the vineyards. So innovative for its time, the new vines were planted immediately by caste in plots, separated by wide streets for better easy work. STEP BY STEP In 1916 gives a new step with the construction of new mills and warehouses. The last major increment was given by Eduardo Mendia Freire de Serpa Pimentel, who was rebuilding the oldest vines.
