We are a modern distillery with a storied past. We are stewards with a goal to honor history and challenge tradition. We are here to reimagine how Kentucky spirits are presented to the world. Our goal is to be a brand recognized around the world for inspiring people to follow their passions through an experience with our spirits. Our site was built by bourbon legend Col. E.H Taylor in 1887, and was the culmination of his life’s work. This was the site where Taylor said he would make the best whiskey in the world. Whiskey that would be “fit for royalty.” Taylor designed his distillery in the image of a European Castle. He referred to his water source as “the key to his success,” and built it in the shape of a keyhole. We still thank Col. Taylor for inspiring the modern name of Castle & Key Distillery. During the decline of the bourbon industry in the 1970’s the distillery was abandoned and nature began to takeover. The site sat vacant for the next half a century. In 2014 our founding partners purchased this amazing piece of bourbon history and began the process of restoring it to its original form. Now we are here to share our spirits and our story with the world.
